Storing things for a business, bay by bay

A guide to storing things for a business, in plain words, published by Dotto from the official sources linked on each page: chemicals, racking, forklifts, a storage unit’s agreement, records and food. Six bays, each written from the regulators’ own pages.

The rack

Each bay is one question, answered from the regulator or government page that owns it. Start anywhere.

Why every plate here says the same thing

WorkSafe Victoria describes the safe working load as the maximum weight of unit loads that should be placed on racking for it to remain safe, available from the manufacturer’s instructions, and says changes to the racking configuration alter it.

A figure printed on a website would belong to no rack you own. So every plate on this site carries the only instruction that is true of all of them: see the manufacturer’s rating. The racking bay explains what a real sign shows and who may change it.

Four rules from four bays

One line from each of four bays’ official sources, worth knowing before anything goes on a shelf.

About this guide

commercialstorage.com.au is a guide to storing things for a business, published by Dotto. Each bay is written from the regulators’ and government pages listed at the foot of each page.

It is general information, not legal, safety or tax advice, and states and territories can have different rules: where a rule belongs to one state, the page says which. Where this guide and an official page differ, the official page is right.
